ISRO Develops PraVaHa CFD Software for Aerospace Design
PraVaHa - A CFD Tool by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed a software named PraVaHa (Parallel RANS Solver for Aerospace Vehicle Aero-thermo-dynamic Analysis) at its Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). This Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software can simulate external and internal flows on various launch vehicles.
Importance of PraVaHa
Understanding airflow around aerospace vehicles is crucial for designing their shape, structure, and thermal protection systems. PraVaHa plays a vital role in analyzing these aspects, especially during launch and re-entry when the vehicles experience severe aerodynamic and aerothermal loads.
Applications of PraVaHa
PraVaHa has been extensively used in the Gaganyaan program for aerodynamic analysis of human-rated launch vehicles, including HLVM3, Crew Escape System (CES), and Crew Module (CM).
Current Capabilities and Future Developments
Currently, PraVaHa can simulate airflow for perfect gas and real gas conditions. Validations are underway to simulate the effects of chemical reactions during air dissociation and combustion in scramjet vehicles.
